Who was voted Herald-Tribune Athlete of the Week from September 20 to 25?
Voting is over and Bradenton Christian School football player Ashton Lucas was named the Herald-Tribune Athlete of the Week from September 20-25.
The senior scored the Panthers’ first touchdown of the night against the St. Petersburg Catholic on a 94-yard punt return and also caught two touchdown passes while making six catches for 148 yards. He was also a key member of the BCS secondary in defense and the lead man on special teams. During the game, he became the all-time leader in receiving yards for BCS.
The Herald-Tribune audience gave Lucas 54% of the vote while Saint Stephen Episcopal School long-distance runner Michael Thomas came in second with 40.1% of over 11,000 votes.
The other nominees were soccer players Omari Hayes and DJ Escort from Venice and Julien Boyer from Bayshore; golfer Wyatt Plattner of Cardinal Mooney Catholic School; volleyball players Chariot Johnson of Booker, Niecy Johnson of Bradenton Christian, Paden Keller of Venice and Chariot Johnson of Booker.
Candidates are selected based on the results and information communicated each evening by area coaches to [email protected] and nominations made by coaches and athletic directors. The next Athlete of the Week poll will be released Monday at 10 a.m. and voting ends Friday at noon.
