The Madrid Public Prosecutor’s Office paints a portrait of Delgado: “The abuses of minors that exist are not committed by priests”

The Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Community of Madrid responded to Dolores Delgado that, despite the fact that there are open cases of sexual abuse of minors in the region, these were not committed by Catholic priests. “There is no proof” that there is to date a procedure in progress “relative to the case referred”, at least in the field which falls to the high Court of Justicethey come under the Parquet of the Community of Madrid.

This Monday ended the ten-day period that the Office of the Attorney General of the State granted to the various superior prosecutors to collect and provide data on assaults and sexual abuse of minors in religious institutions. Specifically, the Public Prosecutor’s Office requested information on the criminal proceedings initiated, both before the courts and before the public prosecutor’s office, aimed at clarifying the complaints or prosecutions for the alleged commission of sexual assaults and abuse of minors within the congregations, schools or any other religious institution. The objective, to have a global vision of the situation.

Thus, the public prosecutor’s office of the Community of Madrid responded to the request last Friday with a report indicating that, with regard to the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid“there are no” ongoing proceedings.

Other cases

However, there are cases in other prosecutor’s offices in the territory, but they would not be linked to Catholic priests. This is the case, for example, of the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Madrid, which reports the existence of three cases opened before as many courts. In the first case, it is a gym teacher who teaches in a religious center but who he is neither a priest nor a religious. The second concerns a complaint against a member of the congregation Kingdom of Jehovah’s Witnesses and in the third, the complaint of a former pupil of a religious school is investigated, but the complainant does not know whether the accused was a priest or a layman.

The Provincial Public Prosecutor’s Office of Madrid also reports two procedures initiated by complaints of assault and sexual abuse of minors in congregations, schools or any other institution already archived for different reasons.

For its part, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Alcalá de Henares region reports some preliminary proceedings in which a priest is being investigated for alleged crimes of sexual abuse of minors under 16 years of age , prostitution, sexual exhibition and discovery of secrets. As for the Getafe-Leganés regional prosecutor’s office, there are two open investigations. The first one at an evangelical pastor for abuse and/or sexual assault on four minor girls and the second on a religion teacher for sexual abuse of a minor under 4 years old.
