North Port appoints Thomas’ coach
North Port High has named Jennica Thomas as their new volleyball coach. Thomas played college volleyball for four years at Northside Christian High School in St. Petersburg, where she also raced for four years. She played volleyball during her freshman and sophomore seasons at Winthrop University in South Carolina, then transferred for her junior and senior seasons to the University of South Florida, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology. and a master’s degree in educational guidance.
Thomas was an assistant volleyball coach at Cambridge Christian School in Tampa in 2015 and with the Bobcats in 2019-20.
Byrd des Cougars second in the 3A vote
Jordyn Byrd of Cardinal Mooney Catholic was second with the Florida Dairy Farmers voting for Class 3A volleyball player of the year.
Byrd was second behind Taylor Parks of Clearwater Calvary Christian, 69-61.
