Retired educator in N. Smithfield schools, Gracia Maynard, dies at 99

Gracia E. (Lavallee) Maynard, 99, of North Smithfield, passed away on Friday September 17, 2021 at the Saint-Antoine residence.
Married to the late Harold Maynard, Jr. Born in Woonsocket, daughter of the late Sigefroid and Philomène (St. Pierre) Lavallée.
Gracia graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1939 and received a Diploma in Elementary Education from Rhode Island College of Education in 1943. She then taught first grade at Union Village, Kendall-Dean and Bushee schools in the school system. of North Smithfield for 27 years. years before retiring in June 1983. She had been a member of the Slatersville Congregational Church since 1966, serving on the Christian Education Committee, the Property Committee, the Deacon Council, the Welcoming Committee and the Committee of finances. Gracia was also the church’s financial secretary for six years, participated in the Pins and Needles sewing group, and was a long-time member of the Ladies Parish Guild.
Gracia and Harold loved to travel and visit countries.
She was predeceased by a son, Christopher, and is survived by her son Jonathan, and wife Isabel, of Harrisville, and daughter, Nancy Inzer, of Harrisville, as well as four grandchildren: Catherine Hagberg, Andrew Inzer, James Maynard, Li Clément; and ten great-grandchildren, Caroline, Will, Emma, Thomas, Wyatt, Nellie, Sam, Aidan, Arthur and Joseph. His grandchildren and great grandchildren have been a source of great joy and pride throughout his retirement years.
Her funeral will be on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Slatersville Congregational Church, 25 Greene Street, Slatersville, RI. Participants are requested to wear masks.
