THE CLASSIC AT THE DAMIEN BOYS BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

PLATINUM DIVISION

Damien 80, Jesuit 57 (crusader): The Spartans were originally scheduled to play in Sacramento, but after pulling out due to coronavirus health and safety protocols, the Spartans played in place of the Jesuits, running in a big league and sailing for s improve to a perfect 15-0. RJ Smith and Jimmy Oladokun led the Spartans with 19 points each. It will get tougher for the Spartans on Tuesday against Idaho’s Owyhee, who beat St. Bernard to qualify. Damien will face Owyhee at 8:30 p.m.

GOLD DIVISION

Los Altos 47, Fountain Valley 44: The Conquerors must have worked up a sweat all the way to the final stretch, but took the win behind another big game from the 7-foot junior Jazz “Big” Gardner. He finished with a high 18 points to play with 11 rebounds and six blocks. CJ Bellamy had 10 points for the Conqs. Los Altos advance to Tuesday’s second round against the San Juaquin Memorial at Damien’s Event Center at 6:30 p.m.

Union Redondo 61 Saint-Paul 56: David Solmando of Redondo Union led all scorers with 17 points.

Santa Clarita Christian 52, Independence 48

Diamond bar 61, Compton 60, OT (crossover): The Brahmas got a record 30 points from Dylan Stout with seven rebounds and Malcom Bell finished with 20 and seven boards. Compton was scheduled to face St. Francis, who retired, so Compton will move on to the Diamond Division. Diamond Bar will progress to the Silver division.

SILVER DIVISION

Glendora 46, Hesperia 45: The Tartans qualify to face Leuzinger in the second round on Tuesday at Royal Oak Middle School at 8 p.m. ET. Hesperia missed two shots on goal in the final five seconds, allowing the Tartans to pull out. Luke Jacobson led Glendora with 13 points, Noah Smith had 12 and Braydon Wooldridge scored all 11 points, all in the second half.

Pasadena 56, Dana Hills 54: The Bulldogs advance to face Rancho Cucamonga in Tuesday’s second round against Rancho Cucamonga at the Royal Oak Middle School at 6:30 p.m.

Chino Hills 54, Washington Prep 39 – Jaycob Parsons of Chino Hills scored a high 20 points.

Murrieta Mesa 77, Flintridge Prep 75: Jefferey Stetson led Prep with 21 points and Josh Kim had 17.

BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT FOR BOYS FROM SOUTH PASADENA

Grant 62, West Covina 59: Bulldogs’ Benjamin Pho led with 25 points while Shawn Daher had 14 and Jordan Nacpil with 10.

The Bulldogs (9-5) were a bit short against a well-trained Grant 62-59 team. Game 2 takes place tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the SoCal Christmas Classic.

La Canada 63, LACETS 50: The Spartans’ Brady Ranson has 18 points, the team’s top, while Brandon Chung and David Garland have 10 each.

Schurr 61, Whittier Christian 56: Rey De La Torre led the Spartans with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Noah Loera added 15 points with five rebounds. Whittier Christian had a high 28 points from Aiden Stewart and Mart Hewer had 10 points.

Whittier 70, central city value 20: Isaiah Leon of the Cardinals with a record 21 points, but Brandon Romo had a big double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

GLENDORA GIRLS TOURNAMENT

Glendora 57, Don Lugo 34: The Tartans were led by Rylie Anderson with 20 points in the round robin tournament at Glendora. Brianna Gomez added 12 points as the Tartans improved to 10-4.

CANADA GIRLS TOURNAMENT

Sherman Oaks Notre-Dame 51, Northview 41: The Vikings held their own with undefeated Notre Dame in the round robin as Alana Diaz scored 15 points with 10 rebounds. Sammy Martinez also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Covina 55, Canyon Springs 26 (Ramona Tournament).

Bonita loses an uphill battle in overtime against the Peninsula quality team, 52-50.
