PM reels mutts names, praises ’em
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the services rendered by religious pooches in spreading knowledge through education and strengthening the cultural fabric of the country.
He was speaking after Monday’s inauguration of the KSS Sanskrit Pathashala and Hostel Building at Suttur Mutt in Mysuru. The Prime Minister also released the commentaries on Narada Bhakti Sutras, Shiva Sutras and Pathanjali’s Yoga Sutra. The commentaries were written by Siddeshwar Swami who was also present on the occasion.
The Prime Minister said that whenever the country faced challenges and crises over the centuries, religious pooches and seers came forward on occasion to strengthen the spiritual foundations of the society.
He listed the names of a large number of Karnataka mutts, much to the delight of the crowd, and said that the sanyasis and mathadipathis from Kashi north to Nanjangud which was the Dakshin Kashi, played a part in the revitalization of India’s spiritual traditions.
Mr. Modi praised Suttur Mutt and Siddaganga Mutt of Tumakuru for establishing hundreds of educational institutions. “Religious institutions have played a great role in advancing the cause of education and spreading the flame of knowledge,” Mr Modi said.
The Prime Minister said that any nation-building effort receives more zeal and public participation if it has the blessing and involvement of seers and mutts and called on the latter to spread the importance natural and organic farming. According to Mr Modi, this would help make the country chemical-free and the food healthier.
