âThe NVUSD Camp is an incredible opportunity to return to some normalcy and have a high quality day camp experience where they will interact with their peers and benefit from a range of projects from engineering to art and everything else, âhe said.
The NVUSD camp, along with a proposed high school summer program, was made possible by leveraging CARES law funding provided to the district as part of the federal COVID relief program, the statement said.
The district is also working in partnership with the Napa County Office of Education, Napa Valley Boys and Girls Clubs and On The Move for additional targeted programming.
In the past, NVUSD did not have the funds to offer a free summer program of this quality and scale, Manning noted.
Funding for the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, also known as the CARES Act, “enables the district to build a strong bridge to in-person learning for elementary school students.” .
Summer school or not, the students at Shearer’s Summer School didn’t seem to mind spending a little more time in class.
âI love doing art,â Danna said, dabbing her markers on another strip of paper. Summer school is cool, she says. In addition to art, âwe can run and do physical education. I like nature. I also like to read books, âshe said. In fact, “my teacher told me I can read (a Magic Tree House book) and I’m going to read it,” she announced.
