Metropolitan Epifaniy and Vice-President of the European Commission discuss the protection of religious freedom
The Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kiev and All Ukraine, met at his residence the Vice-President of the European Commission for the Promotion of the European Way of Life, Margaritis Schinas.

“During the meeting, the parties discussed the religious situation and the protection of religious freedom, European integration processes in Ukraine and the experience and perspectives of interaction between religious organizations and institutions Europeans, ”the report says.
Schinas invited the OCU chief to continue cooperation, noting that religious communities are an integral part of the European space.
Archbishop Yevstratiy of Chernihiv and Nizhyn, deputy head of the OCU Church’s external relations department, also attended the talks.
Margaritis Schinas also met with officials of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, reports the Spiritual Front of Ukraine.
Ukrainian religious leaders expressed their support for the country’s path towards European Community membership, stressing the importance of preserving European spiritual roots. The parties also discussed some issues of assistance to people suffering from lawlessness, including in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.
A common desire was expressed to continue cooperation between the Council, as an institution of Ukrainian civil society, and the institutions of the European Union.
