TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Lighthouse Christian School has scoured the country to find its new football coach.
Jason Smith, a former University of Central Florida player, returns to duty. He coached both 8 and 11 players, winning two state championships along the way.
Smith will meet potential returning coaches as he fills out his squad. Additionally, Smith will coach athletics, assist athletic director Daequon Montreal, and serve as the director of student discipleship.
Smith knew the principal of Lighthouse Christian Schools, Stephen Denny, and Denny encouraged him to apply.
The Lions didn’t win a game last season, having finished third the year before.
When we asked Coach Smith about taking over a winless team, here’s what he had to say.
“My goal is to go 1-0 every game, you get that from UCF, Scott Frost,” Smith said. “My biggest thing is that the habits reflect the mission and that’s on the pitch and in the classroom. If our mission is to go back to winning championships and winning football, then our habits must reflect that.
Smith also plans to create more youth opportunities, not just for Lighthouse student-athletes, but for the Twin Falls community as a whole.
It is one of his first items on the agenda when he arrives in town.
