Kanye West reportedly opened a private Christian school
Kanye West reportedly opened a private school. According to a report by rolling stonethe school, called Donda Academy, is headquartered in Simi Valley, California, and is a tuition-based preparatory school rooted in Christianity.
The the school website states that Donda Academy’s mission is to “prepare students to become the next generation of leaders” through “an ethic of integrity and care”.
At present, the school is not yet accredited and Brianne Campbell, Executive Director of the Main Program and Choir at Donda Academy, has never held an official teaching position.
At Donda Academy, students will participate in “full school worship; basic courses in language arts, mathematics and science; lunch and recreation; enrichment classes including world language, visual arts, film, choir and parkour. Two unnamed sources said rolling stone that families wishing to enroll in Donda Academy must sign a non-disclosure agreement.
West collaborated at the school with producer Malik Yusef, who told rolling stone that West plans to open multiple Donda campuses across the country.
“I want to emphasize that there was never a time when Kanye West didn’t want to do this,” he said. “I think people don’t understand the seriousness of this. This man always wanted to start a school in his mum’s name… Look what we’re doing with the choir and fashion at school – I don’t think there’s a venture capitalist or anyone who had such a clear vision of what education can look like to you.
Although not much is known about the structure or educational format of Donda Academy, Tamar Andrews, a consultant for Donda who is said to have two decades of experience in the field of education, says that sharing School information is not a high priority at the moment.
“Honestly, we don’t care if people know about the school,” she said. “People who want to come to the school are looking for a good Christian school in that area and they know we’re there…there’s also a certain notoriety associated with being affiliated with Donda. So, I don’t know if we have to advertise, which is a blessing and a curse. »
