ITD will collect public comments on Karcher Rd., interchange
The Idaho Department of Transportation invites the community to learn about two highway projects in Canyon County.
One of the projects concerns the improvement of the Karcher I-84 interchange. ITD plans to widen the interchange bridge and add a new westbound lane through the interchange to Caldwell Blvd. The design also includes improvements to ramps, signals and intersections.
The other project would widen State Highway 55 (also known as Karcher Rd.) to two lanes in each direction between Farmway and Middleton roads. A 10-foot cycle and pedestrian path would also be added to the north and south sides of SH-55. You can read the all the details of the project here.
“These two projects are part of ITD’s ongoing work to address the growth and resulting congestion on Canyon County freeways, particularly State Highway 55,” said project manager Erika Bowen. . “ITD is targeting the most pressing needs in this area while continuing to plan for long-term solutions.
Funding for these projects would come from the Leading Idaho Transportation Expansion and Congestion Mitigation Program. ITD says that once construction funding is confirmed, work on the Karcher Interchange could begin in 2023 and the SH-55 project would begin in 2024.
The public is invited to an open house on Thursday, July 7 to learn more about the two projects. The open house will be held at the Nampa Christian School from 5-7 p.m. A Spanish interpreter will be on hand to translate for anyone who needs it.
