Houthi missile attack on mosque, religious school kills, injures 29 civilians in Yemen
Two ballistic missiles were used in the attack on Sunday evening, the Marib governor’s office said in a statement.
The Iranian-backed Houthis did not immediately claim responsibility.
Fighting between government forces and the Houthis has intensified in recent months. According to the United Nations, some 10,000 people were displaced in September by fighting in Marib, the last Nordic stronghold of the internationally recognized government. He claims a humanitarian corridor for aid.
The war in Yemen and the economic collapse along with restrictions on imports into Houthi-controlled areas have caused what the United Nations considers the world’s biggest humanitarian crisis, with 16 million people at risk of starvation.
A Riyadh-led coalition of forces intervened in Yemen in March 2015 after the Iran-aligned Houthis toppled the Saudi-backed government of the capital Sana’a in late 2014. The Houthis say they are fighting a corrupt system and foreign aggression.
The Houthi movement said in October it had seized new territory in the energy-rich provinces of Shabwa and Marib, gains confirmed by sources, as it presses an offensive that could further complicate international peace efforts .
