FA Girls’ Indoor Track Finishes First, Boys Finish Second

ORONO – The Foxcroft Academy women’s indoor track team finished in first place in a week six Penobscot Valley Conference/Eastern Maine Indoor Track League meet Jan. 22 at the University of Maine New Balance Field House.

ORONO – The Foxcroft Academy women’s indoor track team finished in first place in a week six Penobscot Valley Conference/Eastern Maine Indoor Track League meet Jan. 22 at the University of Maine New Balance Field House.

The Ponies scored 74 points, more than double runner-up John Bapst Memorial High School of Bangor’s 33. Sumner Area Memorial High School of East Sullivan was third with eight points.

Senior Kasey Howell won a pair of sprints and anchored the winning 4×200 relay. Howell won the 55 meters in 8.92 seconds and she had the best time of the competition in the 200 meters in 32.64 seconds.

Senior Rebekah Demers, sophomores Amara Perfect and Paige Weidman, and Howell combined to run the relay in 2:15.57.

Junior Olivia Hill won the shot put with a throw of 23 feet 10 inches. Hill finished first in the high jump at a height of 3-09. She was also second in the long jump at 12-04.75.

Demers earned another first-place finish from Pony in the long jump at a distance of 12-07.25. Demers also finished third in the 200m in 34.39 seconds.

Foxcroft finished four times in the 55. Howell was junior Isabel Gamez in 8.92 seconds, Weidman in 9.03 seconds and Perfect in fourth place in 9.19 seconds.

Junior Nora Koskela-Koivisto was second in the 800 in 2:48.50.

The Ponies have finished among the best in the 200m five times. From third to fifth were Demers in 34.49 seconds, senior Jasmine Bavaglio in 35.63 seconds and junior Miriam Perez in fifth in 36.90 seconds.

Perfect added a third-place shot in the shot at 18-11.75.

The Foxcroft boys scored 52 points to place second among a field of five schools. John Bapst came first with 79 points, Sumner third with 47 points, Bangor Christian School fourth with 15 points and Dexter Regional High School fifth with five points.

Pony senior Jacob Reed led the team in winning all three show jumping events. Reed took the honors in the long jump at a distance of 18-04.50 and the triple jump at 36-09.50. Reed cleared the bar at 5-08 to win the high jump.

Junior Eion McCloskey won the 55 in 7.35 seconds, and classmate Kyle Jankunas was close behind in 7.54 seconds. The two were part of second place in the 4×200 relay as second Zachary Peirce, Jankunas, junior Douglas Rowe and McCloskey combined for a time of 1:49.89.

Jankunas also earned a fourth-place finish in the long jump at 15-06.

Freshman Runner Jarrett came second in the 2 mile at 11:15.21

Peirce was second in the mile at 6:01.52.

Rowe finished fifth in the 200m in 28.01 seconds.

For Dexter, senior Miles Gadwah scored all five points for the team. Gadwah won the 55m hurdles final in 10.30 seconds.
