El Dorado ready for a long road trip
El Dorado will open the conference game this Friday with a long trip to Jonesboro. Coach Steven Jones said his team will make at least one stop during the nearly 5-hour bus ride.
âWe’re going to stop at Harding University in Searcy. They’re going to let us use their new indoor facility to take a little walk, stretch our legs and just move around a bit before we finish the trip, âJones said.
“With the trip being so long, we’re going to get to Jonesboro a little earlier than we typically get at a road game, probably about an hour earlier, to hopefully avoid the jet lag.”
The Wildcats finished the non-conference ledger with a 2-1 mark while Jonesboro sets a 1-2 league record after beating Little Rock Catholic (37-7) and losing to Conway (42-25) and Cabot 47-27).
The Golden Hurricane features a fast multiple attack. The Wildcats also bring an explosive offense, averaging 41.6 points per game.
Still, El Dorado might want to start the game with his defense on the pitch. Jones stressed the importance of finishing the first half strong and starting the second with so much momentum.
âFrom the middle of the second quarter until the middle of the third quarter, we have to make more plays. I don’t know about the second trimester. It wasn’t our best quarterback, âhe said. âWe have to win this quarter between about the halfway point of the second and the halfway point of the third. I think a lot of games are won or lost in this area.
