Independence Day weekend turns out to be busy in and around the Carson City area with events from Thursday July 1 through Monday July 5.
Nevada Rural Counties RSVP hosts its annual carnival Thursday through Sunday, with activities for the whole family at Mills Park in Carson City. The carnival park opens at 4 p.m. on Thursday, at noon on Friday and Saturday and at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The Sunday July 4 fireworks display will begin at 9:30 pm Head here for a full schedule of carnival activities, including live music and vendors, during the four-day celebration.
The USAF Mobility Group will perform at Bob McFadden Plaza on Saturday, July 3 at 5:30 p.m. to kick off the holiday weekend. More information on the family event can be found in the story here.
The Carson City Comedy Club will feature comedian Paul Hooper inside the Carson Nugget on Friday July 2, Saturday July 3 and Sunday July 4 at 8 p.m. ET. Tickets cost $ 15. More information can be found in the story here.
The Nevada State Railroad Museum will offer three days of train rides during the holiday weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday through Monday. The museum offers an all-inclusive bracelet that grants visitors free entry into the museum and unlimited train rides for a day. Go here for more information and prices.
Tours will be available at Nevada State Prison daily this weekend from Saturday July 3 through Monday July 5. Presented by the Nevada State Preservation Society, tours will run hourly from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Monday will feature eight tours every half hour from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets cost $ 15 per person. Go here for tickets and more information.

Main Street Gardnerville is hosting the eighth annual Freedom 5k Fun Run and Walk on Sunday, July 4 starting at 8 a.m. at Heritage Park in Gardnerville. A pancake breakfast presented by the Carson Valley Lions and Pops Orchestra will follow at 10:00 am. For information and registration, go here.
The town of Minden will host a July 4th celebration on Sunday July 4th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Minden Park. The Carson Valley Inn will offer free grills and activities including a children’s bike parade and bouncy houses are planned. For more information, go here.
The City of Genoa will present its Genoa Americana celebration at Mormon Station State Park on Sunday, July 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will feature US bands until 4 p.m. as well as the Carson City Symphony at 4:30 p.m. be available for purchase. For more information go here.
Dayton will host its third annual July 4th Parade to celebrate Independence Day, presented by the Friends of Old Town Dayton. Residents are invited to participate in the parade, from 10 a.m. Check out the story here for more information.
The Virginia City Tourism Commission will host a July 4th celebration with a parade, live music and fireworks. The events begin at noon on Sunday July 4 with the parade down C Street.
