Bangalore Live News: The government of Karnataka has announced that he will impose a curfew on weekends and extend the state’s two-week nighttime curfew in light of the alarming rise in the number of Covid-19 cases. It comes as the state recorded another significant spike for the fourth day in a row with 2,479 infections and four deaths recorded on Tuesday. That brings the cumulative number of infections and deaths to 30, 13,326 and 38,355 respectively, the health ministry said.
The state has seen an increase in new infections since Jan. 1, when the count passed the 1,000 mark after a three-month gap.
Karnataka’s Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar has insisted on special measures for Bengaluru amid an alarming increase in Covid-19 cases in the city. Stating that the third wave of Covid-19 has taken hold, Sudhakar predicted that the state capital will be an epicenter of the latest outbreak.
In other news, Karnataka inoculated 59% of targeted beneficiaries the first day of the vaccination campaign for 15-18 year olds. The Bangalore urban district, which aimed to vaccinate 32,800 beneficiaries, vaccinated 8,784 people. Neighboring districts like Ramanagara and Mandya inoculated 60 percent of targeted beneficiaries. Dakshina Kannada vaccinated 97 percent, Kodagu (100 percent), Udupi and Uttara Kannada (103 percent), Haveri (273 percent), Dharwad (225 percent) and Belagavi (220 percent).
