In an emotional game for both teams, time ran out in Munroe’s Cinderella playoffs as they lost to Trinity Christian, 39-22.

As the Bobcats rose to the top by winning the program’s first playoff game against University Christian, the Conquerors were without head coach Verlon Dorminey, who was ill and unable to attend the game.

Oklahoma commit Treyaun Webb scored three times in 15 carries for 291 yards and froze the game with a long run at the end of the fourth quarter to give Trinity the victory.

The junior running back went wild against the Bobcats and helped the Conquerors end their last home game with flying colors.

Webb took the second play of the scrum from the distance, pushing his way to a 55-yard score and setting the tone for the game. He was the player the Conquerors turned to when the Bobcats returned to the game and he delivered for his team.

No contribution was more important than his crazy 90-yard run to freeze the game at the end of the fourth quarter. The Conquerors fumbled on the previous play and ended up in third place and a mile from their own 3-yard line.

Webb took a direct photo and raced into a crowd of Bobcats, shooting to the other side seconds later and sprinting across the Trinity sideline with defenders in tow. It was peddled and the Conquerors received a hit warning on the play, but they didn’t need points. They had to find a way to keep the propulsion alive instead of getting out of their own end zone. Webb did just that for them.

Trinity’s defense held a team that averaged 32.8 points per game without scoring in the first half of the game. They canceled the Bobcats playmakers and forced their will on Munroe’s offense.

For most of the game, Trinity blocked the Super 11 Cam Miller selection on Wyatt Sullivan and challenged the Bobcats to test him with Keaton Thomas moving away from the safety point as additional insurance.

They plugged holes and huddled around Joshua Brown whenever the senior quarterback thought about breaking up. When Brown attempted to pass he was swarmed which even resulted in a scoop and a score in the second quarter which gave the Conquerors full control over the game.

The only real offense they generated in the first half came from Ahmari Borden’s kickoff returns, where he looked like he was on a missed or broken tackle to make a trip to the end zone. But Borden never freed himself and the Bobcats never scored any points on the board in the first half.

They came out fiery in the second half and pulled off some impressive practices, but that wasn’t enough to reverse the lead the Conquerors built in the first half.

Bobcats beaten, not beaten

Munroe claimed the first playoff victory in school history last week against University Christian. If Friday’s game gave a glimpse into the future, it won’t take long for them to get another one.

The Bobcats trailed 32-0 at halftime on the road against a team with eight state championships and a full roster of Division I athletes. But they didn’t flinch, passing the Conquerors 22. -7 in the second half and showing heart throughout the match.

They had Trinity on the ropes and had all the momentum on their side out of halftime.

They came down the field and Brown scored his first of two touchdowns, then threw a jump ball to Sullivan who managed the two-point conversion on Miller for their first points of the night.

When Trinity got within striking range and Colin Hurley attempted to throw his second touchdown pass of the day to Fred Highsmith, sophomore cornerback Ostin Perkins recovered the pass and returned it for 97 yards for a touchdown. And Brown made his way to another touchdown to keep hope alive after Trinity scored a late-game touchdown.

There simply weren’t enough ticks on the clock for the Bobcats. As the fourth quarter progressed, it was clear the return effort would fail.

When the clock hit triple zero, the Bobcats’ season was over and as the realization that their high school careers were over, emotions began to overwhelm some of the players.

“I told them I loved them,” said head coach Alex Lehky after hugging groups of his players after the game. “Now there are guys who have to make sure their grades are right so they can go wherever they’re trying to go for next year. This is a big goal of our school and our program. Help the guys take it to the next level and we have a group of seniors who are going to do it this year. My message to them was thank you and I love you. I will do anything for you and we will continue to do anything for them and get them ready for signing day.

The Bobcats end the season 8-3 but will still have a place in the history books with their first playoff win last week.

A trip to Orlando looms for the Conquerors

With the victory, the Conquerors head – almost – to Disney World.

Not for a meeting with Mickey, Minnie, Pluto and the gang, but for a showdown with Orlando Christian Prep (10-1) and a trip to the 2A State Championship in play. The Warriors advanced to the semi-finals afterwards. a 42-12 win over Zephyrhills Christian Academy.

It won’t be an easy feat for Trinity, but after their last two games they’ve found a rhythm.

Trinity beat her opponents 83-29 in the playoffs. It helps that their schedule puts them against tough teams and gives them adversity to fight.

“Losses are tough, but good things come with losses,” Keaton Thomas said after the game. “I think if we went undefeated we wouldn’t understand how to bounce back or fight in these tough battles.”

Trinity is two victories away from the state title. It will be a battle to get there, but the Conquerors have fought all year.
